ADVANCING Artistry

ADVANCING Artistry will be devoted to arrangements at the INTERMEDIATE LEVEL of play; artistically done with the the goal of providing a truly artistic arrangement that is not at a yet professional level of play.

These arrangements are written with the teen students in mind giving them music that will satisfy their maturing tastes. But, they are also written for adults desiring music that's well written, but not at a professional level.

It is my hope that these arrangements will provide you with great musical satisfaction.

SHEET MUSIC PLUS

Copyrighted Music

Sheet Music PLUS, one of the major sheet music outlets on the world wide web has offered a great opportunity for its arrangers, like myself, by procuring copyrights for many popular copyrighted songs to apply our arranging skills.

I plan on making arrangement of many selections from old standards, popular songs and Broadway musicals for Sheet Music PLUS and I will also be displaying them here on this page.

Since these selections are copyrighted they must be purchased directly from the Sheet Music PLUS website and if you click on the  BLUE BUTTON icon you will be automatically directed to the exact page on the Sheet Music PLUS web site for purchase.

I hope you take advantage of these wonderful selections and find places to use them in your teaching repertoire, at recitals and auditions.

Eleanor Rigby

Eleanor Rigby is an example of a song that demonstrates The Beatles evolution of moving from standard rock and roll to more experimental and alternative sounds.  A song on the topics of depressing loneliness was not a common topic coming from rock bands in the 1960's.  However, being a teenager in the 60's, the minor melody caught my attention and became one of my favorite Beatles songs.

All that said, this arrangement features staccato chords and a melody that alternates between staccato and legato phrases.  I wrote it at an intermediate level so it would be playable by teen piano students.  I think teen students that are beginning to expand emotionally will be attracted to Eleanor Rigby.

I see this arrangement being popular for family gatherings, and recitals and well as self-satisfaction.  Also, adult students and amateurs would be attracted to this arrangement.

Yesterday

Yesterday is on the most popular from The Beatles.  This easy arrangement was written for teens and adult amateurs.  Sensitively written, the great melody is allowed to sing atop beautiful harmonies.  Super choice for larger Guild programs, recitals and family gatherings.

Norwegian Wood
This Bird Has Flown

Norwegian Wood was a track from the popular Rubber Soul album of The BeatlesRolling Stone magazine listed Norwegian Wood number 83 in the list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

I tried to give this special song a more artistic treatment.  I give it an introduction and an ending to help this main body of the song stand out.  The notes themselves are simple enough but if one follows the touches carefully observing all the placements of staccato and legato writing one will find a lot of musical satisfaction in this arrangement. This arrangement will help awaken the artistic sense of your students.

I see this arrangement being a hit at recitals, talent shows, family gatherings and shared with friends

I think adult students will also find this arrangement substantive and a pleasure to play and not just a perfunctory arrangement that doesn't go much beyond a melody accompanied by chords. ENJOY!!

With A Little Help from My Friends

With A Little Help from My Friends is a very popular Lennon and McCartney favorite.  It is the second track from their highly popular Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Songs of friendship are always a big hit with students so I thought this would be an excellent choice to arrange for young piano students.

Syncopation is a strong feature of the melody in this piece and I arranged it is such a way as to help students master the constantly syncopated melody. The arrangement is at the earlier intermediate level.

Great for family, friends and recitals.  Also, for adults returning to piano wanting to play music from their youth.  ENJOY!

Ob-La,Di, Ob-La-Da

Ob-La,Di, Ob-La-Da  was composed by Paul McCartney and became part of their White Album in 1968.   This was written during the time when reggae was becoming popular in Britain.

Syncopation is a strong feature of the melody in this piece. This arrangement sound best with a strong detached touch. Play at a bright and brisk tempo and a steady dance beat.  The arrangement is at the intermediate level.

Great for family, friends and recitals.  It would also make for a great party song.  Also, for adults returning to piano wanting to play music from their youth.  ENJOY!
