The Bard Spins His Tale

From medieval England we get the bard, the poet, sometimes a traveling musician. The tradition of being a teller of tales easily transfers to the musician. Here is a chance for the intermediate piano student to tell a story just like the bards of old.

The Nimble Nymphs of Nin

This little toccatina gives students a workout in alternating hands. The middle section takes the familiar American folk tune Yankee Doodle and disguises it with the whole tone scale. Students love the challenge.

Return from Spice Island

The thought of this composition was that of a 16th century sailor returning from a long journey gathering spices from exotic places as the Spice Islands. I imagine this melody being played on a sailor's hornpipe.
