My piano training is in Classical Music and I love sharing that grand tradition with my students. This page is devoted to arrangements I've made of the classics.
This very popular song is given a modern treatment. The time signature has been changed. The melody has been syncopated. Yet, it still remains Brahms Lullaby. Give it a listen!
This beautiful melody is from "Hansel and Gretel" by Engelbert Humperdinck. It used to be in many popular piano books. I have not seen it in any books lately to I thought I would bring it back to our attention.
Chopin's "Tristesse" Etude
The arrangement of this popular piece of Chopin keeps to the original as much as possible. It is transposed to the easier key of F major. However, the same technical problem must be solved; playing two parts in the right hand.
Fur Elise Variations
This most popular of Beethoven's melodies is given a Theme and Variation treatment. The format is:
Theme - unchanged from original
Variation 1 - for the left hand
Variation 2 - as a Jig
Variation 3 - larghetto in A major
Variation 4 - quick register shifts
Variation 5 - alla Rachmaninoff
This set would be an excellent preparatory set of variations to learn before a student is ready to tackle the mature variation sets of Mozart and Beethoven.
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring - J.S. Bach
This beautiful melody of J.S. Bach is from the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, ("Heart and Mouth and Deed and Life"). I give this intermediate student arrangement a little slower, more pastoral setting than the original.
